Part Four Results – Site 27

Site 27 Part 4 has come to a close. I didn’t intend to feature this portion of the story, but when I sat down to write, it just came out. I decided in the end that it would be a nice change of pace and give everyone an idea of where the severed foot may have come from. So that’s, uh, good. Right? The story will be wrapping up in the next couple of weeks so this Friday should give you a clearer idea of what’s happened in Site 27…

Anyway, I’m happy to report that the votes were much more evenly divided this week:

I was worried no one would make the connection between the shard in Part 2 and the missing fragment from the sword in Part 3. Glad someone noticed.

Victoria: You’re gonna be sorry when it hacks off your foot as you try to sneak by. Just sayin.

More trauma about that severed foot you found at the first hatch. Your therapists can thank me later.

And now for my favorite free fiction recommendations:

A friend of mine turned me on to Escape Pod, a free science fiction podcast magazine. They frequently feature short stories and “round up” links to stories at other scifi magazines. The story I wanted to share this week comes from Escape Pod and is called “Future Perfect“. It plays with the ideas of alternate universes and the infinitely different persons each of us could have been. I do have to warn you that this story is rated R on the website due to suggested violence and adult situations. It’s relatively safe for work, but the content isn’t lighthearted. So, something to be aware of before you decide to click the link.

The second story comes from one of our Vote Your Adventure teammates, Sonia Mederios, who also writes science fiction/fantasy. Her blog is full of positive advice for writers and she’s a big fan of writing prompts and flash fiction. The story I wanted to share with you this week is called Paper Airplanes, a 500 word story she wrote for someone else’s writing prompt. Of course, as soon as I chose this one to feature, she then released another flash piece I liked called Moon Dance. These are both safe for work stories, though I must warn you — Sonia’s flash pieces will make you wish she had written more. They may be only 500 words in length, but there is enough content in both for full-length novellas. Just warning you before you read to the end and wish the story kept going. Or maybe that’s just me.
